Here is the Jss 1 civic education scheme of work according to the universal education system and the Nigeria curriculum that teachers can use to create a wonderful lesson note for their civic education class. The lesson note is categorized into first term, second term and third term.

First Term

6Honesty– Define honesty- Identify honest behaviors in school, home, and society- Explain benefits of being honest
7Discipline– Define discipline- Differentiate between self-discipline and external discipline- Describe how discipline helps a person succeed
8Integrity– Define integrity- Explain examples of integrity (keeping promises, returning lost items)- Discuss importance of integrity in leadership
9Contentment– Define contentment- State causes and effects of lack of contentment- Explain how contentment promotes peace
10Revision– Review all first-term topics- Clarify difficult terms and concepts
11Examination– Assess understanding of all covered topics

Second Term

4Limits to Rights– Define the concept of limits to rights- Explain that rights can be restricted for the good of society
5Consequences of Not Performing Civic Duties– State what happens when citizens neglect their duties- Give examples like poor governance, insecurity, and corruption
6National Identity– Define national identity- Identify symbols of national identity (flag, anthem, currency, coat of arms)- Explain importance of national identity
7National Symbols– List and describe the national symbols of Nigeria- State the meanings behind each symbol (e.g. white in flag = peace)
8National Pledge and Anthem– Recite the national anthem and pledge correctly- Explain the meaning and significance of the words
9Respect for National Symbols– Explain the need to honor national symbols- State actions that show disrespect (e.g. sitting during anthem)- Encourage national pride
10Revision– Review all topics for the term with class discussions and exercises
11Examination– Evaluate understanding through test or assessment

Third Term

5Characteristics of Democracy– Explain the characteristics of a democratic society: freedom of speech, press, equality, and justice
6Democratic Institutions– Identify institutions that support democracy (INEC, judiciary, media)- Describe their roles in free and fair elections
7Election– Define election- Explain the importance of elections in a democracy- State different types of elections (presidential, gubernatorial, etc.)
8Voter Education– Define voter education- Explain rights and responsibilities of voters- Describe the process of voting
9Roles of Leaders in Democracy– Define a democratic leader- Identify qualities of good leaders (accountability, honesty)- Describe how leaders can be held responsible
10Revision– Review and revise all topics covered in the third term
11Examination– Test students’ grasp of democratic concepts and government roles
